NAIL ART TUTORIAL: RINGING IN THE NEW YEAR

Goodbye 2011. Hello 2012. It’s crazy to think of all the things that happen in one year & yet it seems to fly by when you’re in it. We just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to all of our readers, twitter followers, facebook fans, pinterest moodboard sharers, etc – getting feedback from all of you really makes this blog worth it & inspires us to do bigger/better things. Expect some new things in 2012 for Polish You Pretty, we are going to be branching out &  have a bunch of exciting things lined up. Today’s tutorial is for our big night out, which obviously means one thing  = glitter. We’ve never done letter or number nails so it was exciting to try and experiment with.

Step 1: After applying a base coat, paint nails with two coats of Dior – Black Sequins. As much as we are bargain hunters for polishes, there are some you just splurge on, and this colour is definitely one. The colour applies so evenly you could almost make due with one coat & the hint of silver sparkles are just enough without taking away from the colour. We never really became unobsessed with dark shades after the black nail polish movement, so if you’re like us Black Sequins is a must-have.

Step 2: Using a fine nail art brush paint 2-0-1-2 across your nails in China Glaze – Cheers To You. We found it best to do dry sketchy numbers with very little polish on the brush & going back after to complete the numbers evenly. Sometimes with nail art if you aim for the final look right away there’s no turning back & you have to start all over (worst).

Step 3: GLITTER! What is New Years without some sparkle? To complete this look we added gradient glitter using this tutorial.  China Glaze – Nova is a bigger sized silver-based multicolor glitter & is perfect if you ever want to add extreme sparkle to any of your designs. Seal in the design with top coat. Voilà!

We hope everyone has a safe & happy New Year, and don’t forget to show us your New Year’s Eve nails! And now, ending 2011 on an adorable note: this.
