Listen, if we get a chance to reference a 90’s band, we’re going to take it.  China Glaze recently tweeted/instagrammed a collection of 4 nail art designs that incorporated neon shades and we felt so inspired – low and behold today’s tutorial! If you’ve been reading this blog in the last month or so, you know how obsessed we’ve become with neon polishes (we hold Essie’s Poppy-Razzi collection directly responsible).

Step 1: After applying a base coat, paint nails with 2 solid coats of OPI – Onyx. We LOVE nail art with a black base, we do not do it enough.

Step 2: Using a nail art pen (we picked ours up at a local Claire’s – it has both brush and felt tip style) – begin at the base of the nail creating a rounded edge star. We found it best to start in the middle and fan out the points. Alternate stars between each other, going all the way to the tip. This step has a very Marc Jacobs type feel, you could definitely stop here.

Step 3: Using a small nail art brush, paint over the white stars with your favourite neon shades. You can do each nail a solid colour or alternate on each nail. We chose 4 of our favourites: Essie – Action, China Glaze – Flip Flop Fantasy, China Glaze – Happy Go Lucky & Sinful Colors – Irish Green. Once you’re done – seal in your design with a top coat, we recommend Seche Vite.

What do you think of today’s nail art design? Are you on the neon train this summer? Let us know on Twitter & Facebook.

  2. I got my Sinful Colors Neon Mellon – I LOVE it! (I’ve done boring stuff like French tips & only one finger, but still) I dig this look – but I know I don’t have a steady enough hand 🙂
