NAIL ART TUTORIAL: THE GIRL ON FIRE
May the odds be ever in your favour! What kind of nail art blog would we be without a tribute to Hunger Games? We were huge fans of the books & we can’t wait to see the movie. We recently were asked to film a segment on Much Music’s New.Music.Live (so exciting!!) for their ‘Hunger Games Week’ & we polished VJ Liz pretty with some great Hunger Games inspired nail art!
The segment aired today, so if you are new to the site and heard of us from New.Music.Live – welcome! We are happy to have you! See here to watch: http://www.newmusiclive.ca/get-your-own-hunger-games-inspired-nails/ !!
Step 1: After applying a base coat, paint 3 of the 5 nails with 2 coats of Essence – Be My Sunshine. This brand recently popped up at our local Shopper’s Drug Mart for $1.50/bottle in cute vibrant colours -love! Then get started on your middle and ring finger and pain your nails with another Capitol Color shade by China Glaze – Stone Cold. This glitter charcoal dries with a flat matte finish & is perfect to represent the coal minds Gale worked in while Katniss was away at the games.
Step 2: Using the sponge ombre method we showed you previously, begin sponging your yellow tips using China Glaze – Riveting from the Hunger Games Capitol Color collection (see swatch here), begin at the base and sponge lighty towards the tip of your nail. Repeat this step with Orly -Forever Crimson, creating ‘girl on fire’ nails!
Step 3: Using a nail art brush in China Glaze – Midnight Kiss, fold nails together so they are aligned. paint a rough line across the two middle nails that will match up across the two nails. On your middle finger paint an arrow pointed towards the side of your nail & thicken up your line. On your ring finger, thicken your line and paint 4 diagonal lines to make the feathers. Once this is complete your will have Katniss’ bow & arrow!
Seal in your flame/fire nails using Seche Vite. Make sure to leave your middle & ring finger without top coat to keep the matte finish! We love this effect! Happy Hunger Games readers!
