NAIL ART TUTORIAL: EYE FOR AN EYE

Not only are we inspired by the nails that strut down the runways at fashion week, but also by the attendants that bring a strong A-game – we can’t help but take notice. Alexa Chung is one of our favourite style icons & it comes as no surprise that her nail art is on point – recently sporting these beauties. We couldn’t wait to try out this design – guess you could say that we’ve had our eye on it for awhile (this is not the end of the ‘eye’ puns).

Step 1: After applying a base coat, (we recommend Orly – Bonder) paint nails with 2 coats of Zoya – Avery. We never stop looking for great nudes, & Avery is a new addition to our collection that is currently in heavy rotation. The natural shade applies like a dream & works perfectly with our skin tone to achieve the look of mannequin hands.

Step 2: Dipping a nail art brush in Sally Hansen Insta Dri – Whirldwind White, paint ovals closer to the tip of the nails (to leave room for eyelashes) and create the shape of your eye balls.

Step 3: Pick any eye colour shade you’d like – we went with a bright green by Color Club – Edie. Dipping a dotting tool in your colour, place dots in the middle of the ovals to create the iris. Next, line the eye with Liquid Leather by China Glaze, making sure to bring it to points on either side of the oval – accentuating the almond shape of the eye.

Step 4: Now for the final touches – where you cross your t’s and dot your eyes Use a smaller dotting tool to create a black pupil. Last, but not least, using a Sally Hansen nail art pen, draw your eyelashes only onto the top row of the eye to replicate Alexa’s look. We made the eye lashes a little on the longer side, but small will also work depending on nail length. Seal in your design with Seche Vite to complete your look.

This isn’t something we’d typically wear on our tips, & we think that’s why we love them so much. Sometimes you have to stray away from the norm! There are so many variations that can be done with this design – different colour iris’, multi coloured eyes (heterochromia iridum?), bloodshot, etc. Although these nails may not be for everyone, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

This looks like it would be fun to do on one nail. 🙂
It’s a fun way to add interest to a neutral manicure.
