Today marks Day 1 of PYP Valentine’s Day edition nail art! Until February 14th we will be incorportating Valentine’s inspiration into each tutorial, we guess you could say these tutorials were made with a little extra love. We like the holiday just as much as the next girl, but we really LOVE pinks & reds together, we hope you guys don’t get sick of it!

If you don’t follow The Beauty Department, you should jump on board, it is filled with amazing tutorials and beauty inspiration. They recently posted a Missoni nail & we couldn’t wait to try it – seen here. We decided to give the manicure a try with a Valentine’s Day twist.

Step 1: After applying a base coat, paint nails with two coats of Essie – Big Spender. This purpley-pink shade is from the 2008 Fall collection & is a great transition shade from Winter into Spring. We thought it would work perfect for the base of our Missoni print.

Step 2: Using a small nail art brush, begin with the zig-zag pattern using Sally Hansen – Whirlwind White. We drew a top and bottom line to use as a guideline to build on. We didn’t have much success using the Sharpie’s they used in their tutorial.

Step 3: Repeat Step 2 using different shades of pinks and reds, alternating with each row. It’s good to mix up the colours so they aren’t in a predictive order. We also added a few line of China Glaze – Liquid Leather to make the design pop. Once you have completed the design seal it in with a thick top coat.

We love how this turned out & we can definitely see ourselves trying it again with different colour combinations. This nail art is a difficult & can test your patience with all the straight lines, but the result make it totally worth it. Let us know if there are any other Valentine’s Day theme tutorials that you’d like to see over the next two weeks.

This is amazing. I totally have to try this – would a new acrylic-paints brush work as well as a nail-art-specific brush?
