We are slowly starting to ease into the holiday spirit & we didn’t want to bombard you with reindeer & snowflakes (…just yet). Today we took a simple nail art design and gave it a bit of a holiday feel. For this nail art tutorial, we used American Apparel nail lacquer, it’s thick, creamy formula was perfect for dotting on nails for this ombre confetti design.

Step 1: Apply a base coat, we recommend Orly’s Bonder – it has a rubberized quality, is quick drying & one of the few base coats that really work on our nails for lasting wear. Paint nails with American Apparel – Dance, this is another great colour for mannequin hands. Dance is a peachy beige with pink tones, and is a perfect polish when you want to look like you’re not really wearing polish at all.

Step 2: Using a dotting tool (or cut and filed toothpick) begin dotting nails at the tips, gradually decreasing the polka dots closer to the base to create an ombre/falling confetti effect. Start with the darkest shade, American Apparel – Mount Royal, don’t worry about filling in the tips completely, the more layers you do with this design, the more space you can leave. Repeat the same process with your next darkest shade, American Apparel – Berry.

Step 3: To add a little bit of glam/holiday sparkle to the nail, we used American Apparel – Bronze Dash for the top layer. The metallic shade added a bit of dimension to the design, and we’re suckers for any glitter/shine.

We like this nail art design because it allows room for error – if you’ve made a mistake, you can correct it with a different coloured polka dot on top. You can use more or fewer number of layer, and there are so many different colour combinations you can try. Try experimenting with 3 different types of glitters, adding in neon, crackle polka dots, different colours on each nail, etc. This design is different every single time you do it & definitely one we will be repeating time and time again.
